Employment FAQs

A brief guide to hiring in United Arab Emirates

From Abu Dhabi or Dubai, wherever you’re looking to hire in United Arab Emirates, our English-speaking experts are there to support you.
How is payroll managed in the UAE?

In the UAE, expatriates do not pay employer or employee taxes, making it a highly appealing location for work and recruitment. For UAE nationals, a minimum wage is set based on educational level, not falling below 3000 AED per month.

What are the key employment regulations?

The standard working week in the UAE runs from Sunday to Thursday, with full-time employment defined as 8 hours per day, although this can vary by industry and during holidays. Employees with over a year of service are entitled to 30 days of paid leave annually, in addition to 14 public holidays.

What should be considered when dismissing an employee?

Dismissing an employee in the UAE requires a minimum notice period of 30 days. Under DIFC law, this notice period significantly increases for service exceeding 5 years. Pay in lieu of notice is permissible, with severance pay dependent on the length of service, capped at two years’ salary. If a termination is deemed unjust by UAE law, the employee may claim additional compensation up to three months’ salary.

Employer Responsibilities

In the UAE, strict local legislation requires adherence to the following:

  • Compliance with DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) Employment Laws
  • Absence of a Statutory Minimum Wage
  • Management of Gratuity Accrual for employees
